the book

Everything you have been told about the pattern usually starts from the same place: that the behaviour is the problem. The thing to beat. Control. Quit. Count the days.

I spent more than twenty years inside several of those patterns, so let me tell you what I found. The pattern was not the problem. It was the signal. The clearest reading I had of where my life was not yet fully mine. Energy with nowhere real to go, reaching for the nearest door. And once I saw that, the fight I had been having for years turned out to be the wrong fight.

You may already know the shape of it. A life that works from the outside. The career, the intelligence, the ability to function, explain, perform and hold things together. And underneath it, something that does not switch off. A familiar pull. A reasonable explanation. A private negotiation that keeps returning. The explanation sounds convincing enough that other people believe it. So do you.

I tried to deal with it the way I was supposed to. Willpower. Understanding. Therapy. Serious effort. Real attempts. Sometimes those things helped. Sometimes I stopped for a while. And I could explain the pattern better than ever. Still, sooner or later, I found myself back.

Because being smart does not necessarily get you out. Sometimes it only gives you better reasons to stay. What eventually changed things was not another fight with the behaviour. It was a different relationship to the pattern itself.

I stopped treating it only as something to remove and started following it as information. Where did it appear? What did it give me? What part of my life made it necessary? What pressure was it regulating? What had I stopped living, feeling, expressing or choosing?

That changed the order of things. The first surprise was the nail-biting that just stopped . The need to be right about everything. The internal noise I had lived with for as long as I could remember. Then the habits I had been more worried about, and the ones that were genuinely costing me.

Not all at once. Not through force. And not in the order I expected. But in the same quiet direction: as the life underneath began to move, the strategies that had held it together became less necessary.

That is the book. This not a manual for stopping, or another heroic recovery story. It is a book about following the pattern back to the life underneath it. It begins with me. It moves toward you. And somewhere along the way, the story stops being only personal and becomes a mirror.

The book is being written now. It was meant to come first. Before this website, before the coaching. Before all of this had a public shape. But sitting with someone in the middle of something I recognise from the inside - and watching something real begin to move - turns out to matter more, both to me and to the work itself, than finishing the book quickly.

So the coaching came first. The book is taking the time it needs.

I will share it when it is finished, and when it feels true enough to put into the world.
